VirZOOM Virtual Reality Bike Turns Fitness into an Action-Packed VR Experience

VirZOOM is one of the latest innovative technologies that turn fitness into an action-packed virtual reality game. VirZOOM software and wireless velocity sensors transform any ordinary bicycle or stationary bike into a customised virtual reality gaming machine that enables users to get their workout while immersed in a series of fast-paced virtual games.

VirZOOM technology allows the user to become a horse in a race, a tank in a battle, a fire breathing dragon, or a surfer catching a wave. The games are powered only by the user's pedalling and body motion. VirZOOM sensors measure the user's pedalling speed and steering and mirror his or her motion in the virtual world, while the software controls ensure a thrilling VR experience. The sensors on the rear wheel track the user's speed, while another sensor on the front wheel controls the steering. Additional buttons can be attached to the bike for advanced game controls.

VirZOOM was one of the experiences that Sony showcased for Project Morpheus at E3 in Los Angeles in June. It can be connected to any major VR headset for a 360-degree view and fully immersive ride through the virtual environments. All users need to do is connect a bike to a trainer, apply the VirZOOM sensors, and hook up the headset and console.

VirZOOM is a Boston-based start-up specialising in developing virtual reality bicycles. VirZOOM Beta will be available in the last quarter of 2015 and the consumer edition is expected to hit the market in 2016, along with commercial headsets.

VirZOOM will also be available as a fully integrated solution – with the VirZOOM software and sensors, bike, trainer, console or PC and VR headset – via the company's partners.
